Curriculum: 10th Grade (Covenant Renewal)

Covenant Renewal

Our 10th graders spend their evenings focusing on Jewish theology, talking with other teens about their ideas about God, and defining for themselves what it means to be an American Reform Jew living as part of a dynamic minority. Students are encouraged to speak their minds and freely challenge ideas with our rabbis in active learning sessions, and will also address current events and other pertinent issues as they arise during the year. Students learn with Rabbi Ruth A. Zlotnick, Rabbi Jason R. Levine, Rabbi Dana A. Benson, and David Lizzo.

The 10th graders culminate their year of study in two ways. First, they take a class trip to New York City in the spring (seen here with Rabbi Ruth A. Zlotnick, Rabbi Jason Levine, and Director of Youth Engagement David Lizzo). Then, starting in early spring, the class writes and prepares their Covenant Renewal Service, which takes place on Erev Shavuot.

All 9th -12th graders are also encouraged to become Madrichim (teaching assistants), and involved with our outstanding Beth Am Temple Youth group, BATY.
